Portuguese Seafood Rice

Seafood rice is a very popular dish in Portugal, it’s considered one of the 7 gastronomy wonders of the country. Learn to cook delicious Portuguese Seafood Rice. It is very comfort food with creamy and mild seafood garlic tomato taste.

Cooking  time 20 to 25 minutes after made ingredients ready.

Serves 2

Main ingredients

  • 1ltr Seafood Broth (More if you like)

  • 150g Clams

  • 100g Mussel

  • 250g Prawn

  • 80g Baby Squid

  • 100g Crab meat

  • 120g Rice

  • 120ml Tomato Pulp

  • 1/4 Red Capsicum

  • For decoration

  • 2 Atlantic Crab Claws

  • 2 Prawns

  • 2 Mussels


  • 1/2 Tea Spoon Sweet Paprika

  • 1 and 1/2 Onion

  • 2 Cloves Garlic

  • 10g Coriander

  • 1 Bayleaf

  • Salt at your taste

  • Piri Piri at your taste

  • Black Pepper as your taste

How to cook

Prepare the seafood broth.

Boil mussel and clams and separate from the shell and reserve them. Prepare the squids, prawns, crab meat and reserve. Prepare the crab claws, mussels, king prawns for garnish and reserve.


Wash rice and reserve.

Chop the onion, garlic, coriander and red capsicum finely.

Heat the pan, put 3 tablespoon of olive oil. Let oil to get hot, add the onion and garlic, mix it well and let it cook until it softens. Add the bay leaf and then add the tomato sauce and let it simmer for 30 seconds. Add the paprika and rice, mix well, cook 30 seconds and put white wine. Mix it well and let it cook until the alcohol evaporates. Add 800ml of broth, mix well, cover and let it cook until 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes add 200ml of broth, mix well then put all seafood. Cook it for 3 minutes.

Add the capsicum, salt, piripiri, black pepper at your taste and fresh coriander. Mix well and take the bay leaf out. Add the seafood for garnish to get flavor. Your Seafood Rice is done!! :D
